Barking Abbey Ruins

This stunning east London filming location is steeping in local history.

The site of Barking Abbey was founded in 666 AD and later restored by King Edgar in 970 AD. During road works in the 1900s the Abbey foundations were discovered, and the site was subsequently excavated to reveal the ruined foundations you can see there today.

Transport links

Barking Abbey Ruins are centrally located in the town, which has its own tube station (District and Hammersmith and City lines). It’s also located along the A13 and is just over 10 miles from the M25.

Parking availability

The ruins haven’t got their own car park, but parking can be sourced nearby.
